Electro-mechanical Technician – Diagnostics (DIAG006)

The role
We are seeking a Multi-skilled Technician to assist with all aspects of Tokamak diagnostic design, installation, commissioning and on-going works; the candidate will need to be a highly motivated team player requiring low supervision and have broad based engineering experience.
Responsibilities
- Installation and testing of diagnostic instruments
- Mechanical fabrication and installation to support diagnostic equipment
- Electrical wiring/cabling, small electronic assemblies
- UHV Vacuum system installation
- Lab and workshop organisation
- General engineering support to Scientists and Engineers
Hazard-specific / Safety-critical duties
This job includes the following hazards or safety-critical activities (training will be provided as required):
- Working at heights
- Very occasional night working
- Working with materials that may be present a hazard (CosHh assessments in place, with safe working practices provided) such as beryllium
Essential Selection criteria
- Apprentice time served or equivalent experience
- Mechanical and electrical assembly and fitting
- Working from drawings
- Basic IT skills
- Adherence to safe systems of work
Desirable selection criteria
- Ultra-High Vacuum systems
- Experience working on large experimental systems
- Experience with optical fibres
