Overview of the role
Tokamak Energy is developing an extensive and growing intellectual property portfolio which includes over 60 separate patent families and applications in multiple territories. We are now seeking an Intellectual Property (IP) Associate to assist the Intellectual Property Executive to co-ordinate and organise all of the companies IP and patent related activities.
In this role, you will:
- Be the primary point of contact with external patent attorneys with regards to the reporting of inventions and drafting of patent applications.
- Co-ordinate patent, design right and trademark actions in consultation with the IP Executive and liaise accordingly with external patent attorneys.
- Co-ordinating signatures of inventors and senior management on prosecution documentation and returning executed documents to patent agents.
- Monitoring patent and trademark deadlines to ensure payments are made on time and no IP rights lost.
- Review communications from external patent and trademark attorneys and propose course of action based on recommendations.
- Recording and monitoring IP costs and related expenditure
- Liaising with inventors and team leaders to keep them informed of IP progress.
- Managing electronic and paper documents; maintaining records database.
- Assist on the preparation regular reports on the status of the IP and patent portfolio for the Executive team.
- Assist in the capture and protection of IP from the technical and engineering teams; assist with IP education.
- Organise reviews with the commercial and technical teams to review status and prioritisation of various patent applications.
Requirements and attributes we value:
- Educated to first degree level. A technical first degree in Engineering, Physics or Chemistry is desirable.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Computer literacy including word processing, spreadsheets, databases and internet use
- Interest in IP Law and fusion technology
- Willingness to learn about IP, in particular patent procedures and key principles
- Willingness to learn about new and evolving areas of technology
- Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills plus a willingness to work as an effective part of a team or independently as required
- Some experience in Intellectual Property Law is desirable.
