Plasma Physicist

Location: Milton Park, Abingdon, Oxfordshire
Salary: COMPETITIVE
Job type: Full Time, Permanent

The role

Do you want to help make limitless fusion power a reality? Are you a plasma physicist looking for a unique opportunity? If so, Tokamak Energy are seeking talented and innovative individuals that are passionate about accelerating the development of fusion power to join their physics team.

Tokamak Energy’s mission is to transform the way the world generates power by creating a clean, safe and sustainable source of energy for current and future generations. Our innovative approach to fusion is based on two emerging technologies: spherical tokamaks (STs) and high-field magnets made from high temperature superconductors (HTS).

Combining these two technologies enables efficient fusion power production in devices much smaller than previously thought possible. To demonstrate this revolutionary technology, Tokamak Energy are currently operating the worlds first high field spherical tokamak, ST40; designing and building increasingly powerful high-field HTS magnets; and designing a large scale HTS tokamak, ST-F1, that will be the first device to demonstrate the viability of fusion power.

Tokamak Energy are looking for research scientists to join our expanding physics team to perform fundamental and applied research into high-field spherical tokamaks. Applicants with knowledge and experience working in a broad range of areas are welcome to apply, including (but not limited to): MHD equilibrium and stability, confinement and transport, tokamak operations, divertor and edge physics, energetic particles, EC heating and current drive, power plant studies, and plasma control. The role will focus on expanding the spherical tokamak physics basis, investigating key physics challenges, and working at the physics/engineering interface by performing design assessments and providing input to key design decisions.
