Senior NBI Engineer

The role

The Company is taking delivery of 3 NBI systems, one of which is a large HNBI (Heating Neutral Beam Injection).  The specification and system are in progress.  An Engineer is required to follow the details with the manufacturer at all levels, from understanding the specification, project management, visiting the manufacturer for inspections and FAT testing.  The Engineer will also manage the installation at Tokamak Energy along with the SAT and manage the maintenance and operation process of the NBI system.  The Engineer will also work with other engineers to create suitable operations and commissioning processes during operational and maintenance periods.



 The duties will include but are not specific to:

  • Project management
  • Staff and supplier management
  • Risk assessment and method statement for installation and commissioning
  • Installation design and detailing
  • Creation of FAT and SAT reports
  • Test and commissioning
  • Monitoring and maintaining conditions of the HNBI during plasma operations
  • Liaising with various manufacturing companies for product details
  • Internally the post holder with communicate with the Electrical Engineering Group Manager and other staff working in that area

Selection criteria


  • HNC/D in an electrical engineering function
  • Radiation awareness
  • Understanding of electrical drawings
  • Experience with Microsoft office packages
  • PLC programming
  • Demonstrable ability to work effectively as part of a team or alone
  • Willingness to learn new techniques
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Self-motivated and uses initiative
  • Ability to be involved in a wide range of technologies
  • Practical minded, hand on approach, keen eye for detail and strong problem-solving ability
  • Good interpersonal, planning and organisational skills



  • Degree in an electrical engineering function
  • IOSH
  • Understanding of neutral beam plant
  • PLC training
  • Flexible attitude to operational working hours
