The Role

Delivering Commercial Fusion Energy involves many exciting challenges and opportunities – supply chain development is one those. Tokamak Energy is looking for someone to lead the development of the future supply chain to enable delivery of Tokamak Energy’s commercial fusion and demonstration devices. This is a new role requiring the successful candidate to create and implement the long-term supply chain strategy in line with our business plan.

Main duties/role and responsibilities

  • Create supply chain strategies for multiple complex hardware categories, ranging from first of a kind products to well established supply chains
  • Create and implement clear policies and processes that underpin the supply chain development strategies to the wider business
  • Be robust enough to challenge technical owners, whilst being able to develop strong relationships with these stakeholders
  • Take ownership of multiple technically complex long-term sourcing exercises, identified through clear supply chain strategies
  • Demonstrate business acumen and agility in working within a matrix and cross-functional environment to proactively (and reactively) address supplier quality, delivery and other critical supply issues
  • Assessing gaps in the supply base with a view of enhancement, incorporating cost reduction, risk identification and management
  • Performs capability (Product, Process, Materials Management) assessments and where necessary, Special Process Audits with key suppliers to evaluate the application of advanced quality tools, manufacturing capabilities, material management. Supports the development of subsequent improvement plans, coordinates milestones and completion of actions against an agreed project charter
  • Work closely with the purchasing team to develop clear process and systems, when it comes to bringing on new suppliers into the day to day activities of purchasing
  • Support procurement initiatives such as work transfers, category/sourcing activities on transforming our supplier base (rationalisation, re-sourcing, category analysis) by supporting with supplier assessment and development in line with compliance, risk management, cost, quality, delivery and services targets
  • Acts with customers in mind; promotes customer focused business practices; takes time to establish personal contact with key internal stakeholders at all levels of management and ensure organisational and business needs are being met; constantly looking for “voice of the customer” with respect to continuous improvement opportunities

Hazard-specific / Safety-critical duties

This job includes the following hazards or safety-critical activities which will require successful pre-employment health screening through our occupational health service before the successful candidate will be allowed to start work:

  • Driving on Company business
  • Travel outside of Europe or North America on company business

Experience required

  • Degree in Engineering or MCIPS or equivalent
  • Experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, or Supply Chain/Procurement preferred
  • Supplier development experience ideally in deep technology or first of a kind products
  • Strong stakeholder management experience and a good communicator, both verbal and written
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills
  • Excellent system skills – MS Office (Access, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Project management experience is desirable
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong customer, operation and supplier relationship management; quality management system; project and program management; personnel and people development;
  • Able to demonstrate familiarity and hand’s-on experience with quality management and global sourcing management functional competencies
  • Able to demonstrate leadership in an everchanging Technical environment and build effect teams in this environment
