Tokamak Energy wins global award for its work on fusion energy and climate change

Tokamak Energy has been announced as a winner of a Future Planet Award, in recognition of the potential impact that our work on fusion energy has for tackling climate change. The Award, which recognises growing firms that will profitably impact global challenges, is awarded by global innovation investment platform Future Planet Capital.

Nominees at The Future Planet Awards are judged across five impact categories, including climate change, education, health, security and sustainable growth. Tokamak Energy was crowned winner of the climate change category due to the fact that it is “striving to harness the significant potential of fusion power to deliver an abundant, safe and cost-effective source of clean energy to the world.”

 

Tokamak Energy grew out of the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy in Oxfordshire. It was established in 2009 to design and develop small fusion devices, and turned its focus fully towards fusion for energy purposes in 2013. The company is combining spherical tokamaks with the latest generation of high temperature superconducting magnets, and its mission is to change the way the world generates power – forever. We are following a five-point strategy which will culminate in the achievement of fusion energy and supplying energy into the grid by 2030.

The awards final will take place on Tuesday 22 May 2018 in Global Corporate Venturing and Global University Venturing’s London Symposium. The winners of each category will be required to pitch to an audience of leading influencers and investors, with the “overall” winner presented at a gala dinner.
